Wang Wei‑zhong’s new play “Urban Renewal Men and Women” opens in Taiwan
Actor‑writer Wang Wei‑zhong is staging his latest theatrical work, “Urban Renewal Men and Women” (都更男女). The play uses the concept of urban renewal to examine “wall‑cancer” in family and marital relationships, portraying three households in an aging apartment building. In a recent interview, host Lan Xuan highlighted how the story reflects generational tensions and the need for couples to “bow to each other” – a sentiment Wang summed up with his catch‑phrase “不叫不動,一叫就動!”.
The production, organized by Jin Xing Cultural Creation with partners United Digital Cultural Creation and Stab Point Workshop, is sponsored by Puyong Construction and Haiyue International. It begins at the Taipei Performing Arts Center on 14 August, moves to Kaohsiung’s Weiwuying on 22 August, and will run at Taichung’s Zhongshan Hall from 5 September. Tickets are available through the UDN ticketing platform.
