Wang Xinyu omitted from China's Billie Jean King Cup Finals squad

World No. 42 Wang Xinyu, the highest‑ranked Chinese player on the WTA tour, said she was surprised to be left out of China’s five‑player team for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals held in her hometown. The 24‑year‑old posted on Instagram that she respects the decision but is disappointed, reaffirming her commitment to represent China.

The selected squad includes Qinwen Zheng (No. 123), Shuai Zhang (No. 57), Xiyu Wang (No. 94), doubles specialists Hanyu Guo (No. 10) and Xinyu Jiang (No. 26). China will face defending champions Italy in the quarter‑finals. Wang had been a regular member of the national team, playing a key role in China’s run to the 2025 final when Zheng was injured, and she remains the only Chinese player inside the WTA top 50.

The omission has drawn attention because Wang reached a career‑high singles ranking of No. 30 earlier this season and has achieved notable doubles success, including a mixed‑doubles silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
