Wang Yen-cheng withdrawn from Hanwha Eagles start due to knee injury
Hanwha Eagles manager Kim Kyung-moon has decided to withdraw Taiwanese left-handed pitcher Wang Yen-cheng from his scheduled October 1 start against the Samsung Lions due to left knee discomfort.
Wang, who recently returned to South Korea after competing in the Asian Games, expressed a strong desire to pitch despite the injury, reportedly telling coaching staff, “I will pitch even if I have to be taped up.” However, Kim opted to prioritize player protection, stating there was no need to force the pitcher to play while injured.
Wang has been a key part of the Hanwha rotation this season, recording 11 wins and 6 losses with a 3.97 ERA. He has been particularly effective against the Samsung Lions, maintaining a 1.93 ERA across four matchups. To fill the vacancy, the team will start left-hander Hwang Jun-su.
