Wang Yi holds phone talks with French and Latvian foreign ministers

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held separate telephone discussions with the foreign ministers of France and Latvia on September 14.

In a conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Wang Yi emphasized the importance of strategic contact between the two permanent members of the UN Security Council to address global challenges. Wang noted that the ‘One China’ policy serves as the political foundation for the China-France strategic partnership and suggested that China’s development presents opportunities for the European Union. Barrot reaffirmed France’s adherence to the ‘One China’ policy and expressed a commitment to constructive dialogue to address challenges within Europe-China economic relations.

Wang Yi also spoke with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže. They discussed the history of practical cooperation between Latvia and China and their collaboration within multilateral forums such as the UN Security Council. Wang expressed China’s desire to strengthen bilateral ties based on mutual respect and equality.
