Jordan and China strengthen strategic ties and call for Middle East peace
During a state visit to Beijing, King Abdullah II of Jordan and Chinese President Xi Jinping met to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between their two nations. The leaders emphasized their long-standing diplomatic ties, which date back to 1977, and expressed a commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, technology, and education.
Several bilateral agreements were signed covering diplomacy, trade, and supply chains. The two countries also issued a joint statement addressing regional stability. President Xi called for a comprehensive ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution to the Middle East crisis, stressing that the sovereignty and security of regional nations must be respected. He specifically advocated for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue to achieve a lasting peace.
Additionally, the joint statement called for the restoration of normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with Jordanian officials, noting that the Middle East and Gulf regions have reached a critical juncture and urging all parties to return to dialogue and negotiations to prevent further escalation of conflict.
