Wangaratta Magpies dominate Yarrawonga Pigeons to seize Ovens & Murray league lead

Wangaratta secured a 36‑point win over Yarrawonga, beating the Pigeons 106‑70 at the Showgrounds on Saturday. The Magpies' three‑pronged attack – Jack Mapleson, James McClounan and Joel Stevens – each kicked three goals, while ruckman Chris Knowles provided a strong presence in the ruck.

Coach Jason Heatley praised his side’s adaptability and physicality, noting the wet, misty conditions early in the game. Wangaratta’s victory lifted them to the top of the Ovens & Murray Football Netball League ladder, giving them a potential advantage in the race for the flag.

Yarrawonga’s early lead fell apart after an eight‑goal blitz by the Magpies in the third quarter, and the Pigeons failed to score again until the final term. The result positions Wangaratta as a favourite alongside rival Rovers as the season progresses.
