Wappingers Falls unveils two Revolutionary War historical markers

The Town of Wappinger has unveiled two new historical markers commemorating sites from the Revolutionary War era. Town Supervisor Joseph Cavaccini announced the addition of the markers, which aim to preserve local community history.

The first marker identifies a shipyard at Lower Wappinger Creek on Creek Road. According to the Wappinger Historical Society, the shipyard was established by Nicholas Brower and was commissioned by George Washington during the war.

The second marker recognizes the Colonial Mill located on New Hackensack Road near St. Nicholas Road. This mill, operated by the Van Benschoten family, provided essential flour to troops stationed in the Highlands during the Revolutionary War.
