Waqar Younis evaluates Jasprit Bumrah's Test cricket standing

Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has distinguished between Jasprit Bumrah's dominance in white-ball cricket and his legacy in Test matches. Speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast, Younis stated that while there is no modern bowler of Bumrah's caliber in T20 and one-day formats, the Indian pacer still has more to prove in the longest format of the game.

Younis noted that Bumrah's Test appearances have been limited due to injury concerns and workload management, making comparisons with Test specialists like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and English bowlers more difficult.

Despite these critiques, Bumrah maintains a significant Test record, having taken 234 wickets in 52 matches at an average of 19.7. He was also named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2024. Younis specifically highlighted Bumrah's ability to perform in high-pressure scenarios, citing his decisive role in India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory against Pakistan.
