Ratko Mladić Nearing Death as Health Fails in Hague Prison

A private neuro‑psychologist who examined war‑crimes convict Ratko Mladić in the Hague detention centre reported that his condition remains critical. After surviving two strokes in April and May, Mladić can no longer speak and is at an imminent risk of death, his son Darko said.

Doctors from both the Hague tribunal and Serbian specialists confirmed that his health has not improved since the last assessment. In addition to the strokes, Mladić suffers from kidney disease, a cardiac stent, high blood pressure and diabetes, and he has been largely immobile in bed for the past two years. His son complained that he is not receiving adequate medical care in the prison.

The family and medical experts warned that Mladić is in a terminal phase with a very limited life expectancy.
