War Memorials Restored in Belgium and Vandalized in the Netherlands

The war memorial at ORO Het Rijtven in the Netherlands was damaged by vandals. The colorful sculpture, created by ArtORO to commemorate a World War II aircraft crash, is being repaired with a goal to finish by 6 August for a special musical performance. Organizer Peter van de Westerlo said the work will make the monument more resistant to future vandalism.

In Belgium, the Koningslo war monument in Vilvoorde underwent a thorough restoration. The city, together with maintenance services and partner 3W+, cleaned the obelisk, repaired damage, and replaced missing copper lettering. Councilor Katrien Vaes highlighted the project as part of a broader effort to preserve local heritage and respond to citizen concerns about the monument’s condition.
