Waraira Repano National Park Shows No Structural Damage After June Earthquakes

Venezuelan authorities confirmed that the Waraira Repano National Park sustained no structural damage following the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes on 24 June. The Ministry for the Ecosocialism, the National Parks Institute (Inparques) and the Venezuelan Society of Geologists inspected the park’s rock mass and reported only superficial vegetation detachment, a normal response to such tremors.

A multidisciplinary technical commission evaluated roads and trails, finding the Cotiza‑Galipán road cleared of sediment but keeping vehicle access restricted for safety. Access to the La Julia and Sabas Nieves 2 sectors remains closed due to landslides and cracks, while routes through Galindo, Sabas Nieves 1 and the Chacaíto‑Papelón stretch stay operational under constant monitoring. Ongoing inspections continue in the Manzanares area for any significant housing damage, and families affected are receiving social assistance.
