Wardha: Woman doctor slapped by accused in presence of police
A woman medical officer, Dr. Shraddha Bhumre, was allegedly slapped by an accused individual, Qadir Ali Razzak Ali, during a medico-legal examination at the Talegaon Shyamji Pant Primary Health Centre in Maharashtra’s Wardha district.
The incident occurred on Wednesday while a five-member police team, including two police officers and three home guards, was accompanying the accused for medical testing. According to reports, the accused became abusive and struck the doctor while she was signing documents. CCTV footage of the assault has since circulated on social media.
In response, government doctors staged protests demanding strict action against the assailant and an inquiry into the conduct of the accompanying police personnel for failing to prevent the attack. The Maharashtra State Medical Officers Association has also sought intervention from district authorities. Doctors have warned of suspending outpatient department (OPD) services if their demands for security and justice are not met.
Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, regarding the use of criminal force to deter a public servant, as well as provisions of the Maharashtra Medical Service Persons and Medical Service Institutions Act, 2010.
