Warendorf hosts Al Shira'aa Bundeschampionate with 40,000 visitors
The Al Shira'aa Bundeschampionate 2026 in Warendorf concluded with approximately 40,000 visitors attending the six-day event. The competition showcased roughly 930 young horses and ponies from German breeding, featuring 56 tests in dressage, jumping, and eventing.
Tournament director Markus Scharmann reported a successful event despite the challenges of an earlier schedule following the World Championships in Aachen. Breeding expert Carsten Grill highlighted the exceptional quality of the four-year-old horses, particularly the stallions.
In conjunction with the championships, four major breeding associations—Hannover, Oldenburg, Westfalen, and the Deutsches Sportpferd (DSP)—held a joint foal auction. The auction saw 24 selected large horse and pony foals sold, with an average price of 17,938 Euro and a top price of 37,000 Euro. Additionally, a charity auction featured items such as a print of Hans Günter Winkler's Halla and a historical trophy from Winkler's collection.
