Warhorse Studios co-founder suggests GTA 6 could drive higher video game prices

Martin Klíma, co-founder of Warhorse Studios and executive producer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, suggests that the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 could set a new precedent for video game pricing. Klíma argues that because Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive possess the market strength to absorb potential consumer pushback, their success could allow other studios to increase prices to offset rising development costs.

Klíma noted that as players demand more complex systems, larger worlds, and advanced graphics, the expenses required to produce high-end titles continue to climb. He observed that while the industry faces challenges such as decelerating audience growth and the impact of digital storefronts, increasing the unit price may be one of the few remaining alternatives for studio sustainability.

Take-Two has confirmed a base price of $80 for GTA 6, which is $10 above the traditional standard for major releases, with an Ultimate Edition reaching $100. Klíma believes this movement could make higher price points common across the industry starting around 2027.
