Waris Pathan locks Mumbai’s historic Khilafat House amid redevelopment dispute
AIMIM leader Waris Pathan has locked the main entrance of the historic Khilafat House in Mumbai following a dispute over the property’s redevelopment. The conflict involves disagreements between the Khilafat Committee and the Maharashtra Waqf Board regarding the ownership and legal status of the land.
Pathan alleged that the building was demolished to begin redevelopment work for a proposed 120-bed modern hospital without obtaining the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Waqf Board. While the Khilafat Committee claims the site is a leased trust property, the Maharashtra Waqf Board asserts the land is registered under its name according to government gazettes. Pathan stated that the lock was placed to prevent further unauthorized construction until a final decision is reached by the court.
