Waris Pathan urges time for drivers to learn Marathi

AIMIM leader Waris Pathan has called on the Maharashtra government to provide more time for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers to learn the Marathi language amidst ongoing disputes regarding language mandates in Mumbai.

Speaking in Mumbai, Pathan emphasized respect for the Marathi language but noted that India is a multilingual and multicultural nation. He argued that many individuals migrate to Mumbai for livelihoods and should not face sudden pressure or penalties, such as fines or license cancellations, for not being proficient in Marathi immediately. He urged the Transport Minister to find a solution that ensures rule compliance while allowing workers sufficient time to learn.

Additionally, Pathan condemned an incident where eggs were allegedly thrown during a procession for Ganesh idols, stating that such actions attempt to disrupt the social atmosphere. He confirmed he has been in contact with police administration regarding the matter.
