Warisan, STAR, and KDM signal potential cooperation for GE16

Leaders from Parti Warisan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) signaled potential political cooperation during Warisan’s 10th Annual General Meeting in Sabah. The event was attended by Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, STAR Acting Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, and KDM Acting President Priscella Peter.

While no formal electoral pact has been announced, Shafie Apdal indicated that negotiations are in the early stages and emphasized that cooperation must be built on sincerity and mutual strength. The proposed alliance aims to challenge Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the 16th General Election (GE16). STAR Sulaman Division Chief Datuk Kalakau Untol noted that the three parties share a common agenda regarding Sabah’s rights and its 40% revenue entitlement.

Analysts suggest the potential pact faces challenges regarding leadership distribution and seat allocation, particularly in Kadazandusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) and Chinese-majority constituencies. Some observers suggest Shafie Apdal may hold a leadership advantage due to his extensive political experience, while noting that STAR’s involvement could be vital for attracting specific voter bases.
