Warmian Chapter Castle in Olsztyn to close for three-year renovation

The Warmian Chapter Castle in Olsztyn, a historic site once associated with Nicolaus Copernicus, will close for a major three-year renovation starting September 14, 2026. The museum's final days for public tours in its current form will conclude on September 13, 2026.

Supported by the Phoenix Program, the multi-million zloty investment aims to modernize the facility and meet contemporary accessibility and safety standards. The extensive scope of work includes structural and conservation repairs across all parts of the castle, such as renewing roofs on the Baroque wing and tower, replacing floors, windows, and doors, and modernizing all utility installations. Conservation efforts will also focus on the facades, defensive walls, and the courtyard, with interior research potentially uncovering historic polychrome paintings.

During the renovation period, portions of the museum's collections will be displayed at alternative locations within Olsztyn.
