Warner Bros. and Sony delay blockbuster sequels to 2028
Warner Bros. announced that "The Batman Part II," directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, has been pushed back to February 18, 2028, after a previous slip from an October 2027 date. The studio cited the need for additional post‑production work and released test footage of Pattinson in the cape. Co‑head of DC Studios James Gunn defended the long interval, noting that multi‑year gaps are common for major sequels.
In parallel, the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" franchise will return with a new animated film slated for the second half of 2028. Produced by Bagdasarian Productions in partnership with Big Shot Pictures and set for global distribution by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the reboot features a more mature visual style created with advanced AI‑driven techniques. The project aims to introduce the classic characters to a new generation while capitalising on the franchise’s historic box‑office success.
