DC Studios Unveils Joker Anime, Absolute Batman and Krypto Series

At the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation announced three new DC animated projects. "Joker: Laugh Riot" is the company's first official anime; it follows the Joker on a ruthless crusade through Gotham after Batman is murdered, directed by Yasuhiro Aoki and executive‑produced by Jim Krieg in partnership with Japan’s SOLA Entertainment. "Absolute Batman" is a fully CG‑animated series based on Scott Snyder’s best‑selling comic, with Snyder serving as showrunner and executive producer and Nick Dragotta as producer; the story reimagines Bruce Wayne as a working‑class hero stripped of wealth and privilege. The third project is an untitled family‑friendly series starring Superman’s super‑dog Krypto, created by C. H. Greenblatt, in which Krypto teams up with a gang of misfit wannabe criminals whose lives he gradually redeems. No release dates or distribution platforms have been confirmed. The announcements were made by DC co‑chairs Peter Safran and James Gunn and Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register.
