The studio listed the project in a shareholder letter as part of its slate "beyond 2027," indicating an earliest theatrical release in 2028. The announcement follows earlier speculation about a Game of Thrones cinematic adaptation and aligns with upcoming HBO series installments.

The film is based on George R. R. Martin's books and will be the first major theatrical entry from the franchise.
