Jim Carrey to star in live-action Jetsons film announced by Warner Bros

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that a live‑action adaptation of the classic Hanna‑Barbera cartoon *The Jetsons* is in development. The studio announced the project in a shareholder letter, stating that the film will feature Canadian actor Jim Carrey in the lead role, widely reported as the family patriarch George Jetson. The movie is scheduled for release sometime after 2027 and will join a slate of other franchise titles slated for the late‑2020s.

The confirmation ends months of speculation that began in late 2025 when rumors linked Carrey to the role. While some reports have mentioned director Colin Trevorrow, the studio has not officially named a director. The production marks Carrey’s first major non‑Sonic film in over a decade and follows his recent appearances in the *Sonic the Hedgehog* series. *The Jetsons*, originally aired in 1962, depicted a futuristic family living in a world of flying cars and robot helpers, and this will be its first live‑action incarnation.

The announcement was part of Warner Bros.’ broader strategy to leverage iconic intellectual property for theatrical releases beyond 2027, alongside projects such as *The Matrix* sequel, a new *Batman* film, and a *Game of Thrones* spin‑off.
