Warner Bros. film “Digger” faces projected $245 million loss
The dark comedy “Digger”, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, is facing a significant box office failure. After two weeks in theaters, the film has earned approximately $14.4 million in North America and $35.3 million globally.
With production costs estimated between $160 million and $180 million, excluding advertising, the film is projected to result in losses of roughly $245 million for Warner Bros. Industry analysts describe the situation as a financial disaster, noting that the environmental satire—which features Cruise as an oil tycoon—failed to resonate with both critics and general audiences.
The film’s poor performance comes during a period of transition for Warner Bros., as the studio is being absorbed by Paramount Skydance following the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery under David Ellison. Experts suggest the mismatch between Cruise’s commercial star power and Iñárritu’s unconventional artistic vision may have contributed to the lack of audience interest.
