Warner Bros. pulls Supergirl from theaters early after $200 million loss
Warner Bros. announced that the superhero film *Supergirl* will leave cinemas after just five weeks and move to video‑on‑demand platforms on July 28, a little more than a month after its global theatrical debut on June 25. The early digital release is intended to stem the financial damage after the movie earned roughly $124 million worldwide against a production budget of about $186 million and total costs estimated near $290 million, resulting in losses that could exceed $200 million.
The film, starring Milly Alcock as the title hero, underperformed in all markets, including $71.5 million in North America and $53 million elsewhere, with modest earnings in Portugal, Brazil and the Czech Republic. Studio co‑head Peter Safran acknowledged the shortfall but said the DC franchise will continue, confirming Alcock will reprise her role in the upcoming sequel *Man of Tomorrow* alongside David Corenswet as Superman.
