Warner Plans Simultaneous Release of Avengers 5 and Dune Part Three

Warner Bros. intends to launch two blockbuster films on the same day – Avengers: Doomsday (the fifth Avengers installment) and Dune: Part Three – on 17 December 2026. The move directly pits Warner against Disney, which holds the Marvel Cinematic Universe rights, in an unprecedented head‑to‑head cinema showdown.

The double‑feature has been dubbed “Dunesday,” echoing the 2023 “Barbenheimer” phenomenon when Barbie and Oppenheimer opened together. However, unlike the 2023 case, both titles target a largely overlapping audience. Warner has reserved IMAX screens for Dune, meaning Avengers: Doomsday will not be shown in that format, a strategic decision that could affect box‑office performance for both films and risk a “double loss” for the studio.

Analysts note that the two prior Avengers films (Infinity War and Endgame) grossed about $4.8 billion worldwide, while the first two Dune movies together earned roughly $2.5 billion.
