Warrants emerge as accessible alternative to options in Sweden

In Sweden, warrants have emerged as a more accessible alternative to standard options for private investors. While the American options market has seen significant growth and is a standard tool for many retail investors, the Swedish options market remains smaller and often requires specific derivative agreements with brokers.

Joakim Sandén, Vice President Public Distribution International at Société Générale, describes a warrant as a ‘packaged option’. While both warrants and options allow investors to position themselves for rising or falling markets and share similar mathematical valuations, warrants are securities issued by a bank and traded directly on an exchange, similar to stocks or certificates, offering a simpler structure for individual savers.
