Warrants emerge as accessible alternative to options in Sweden
In Sweden, warrants have emerged as a more accessible alternative to standard options for private investors. While the American options market has seen significant growth and is a standard tool for many retail investors, the Swedish options market remains considerably smaller.
Joakim Sandén, Vice President Public Distribution International at Société Générale, notes that while warrants share many characteristics with options—such as strike prices, expiration dates, and sensitivity to volatility—they offer a simpler structure. Unlike standard options, which are contracts between market participants often requiring specific derivative agreements, warrants are securities issued by a bank and traded directly on an exchange, similar to stocks or certificates.
