Warrap State: 49 killed in South Sudan armed attacks
At least 49 people were killed and 33 injured during armed attacks in Warrap State, South Sudan. The violence targeted the Machar-Pakuek cattle camp and Mading Juer Boma village, occurring around 5:00 AM local time.
The Warrap Ministry of Information reported that the deceased include 21 alleged Nuer attackers and 15 members of the Juer Dinka community, alongside casualties from the Lou-Dit, Palipiny, and Apuk-Padok tribes. Local spokesperson William Wal Mayom Bol attributed the raid to an armed transborder criminal network, suggesting involvement from groups in the neighboring Unity State.
This incident follows a similar attack on August 9, where 60 people died and 50 were injured. The Warrap government has issued an urgent plea for humanitarian assistance, citing mass displacement and a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The United Nations has noted that approximately 10 million of South Sudan's 12.2 million residents require aid, with millions facing acute food insecurity.
