Warren Haynes releases symphonic version of ‘Banks of the Deep End’
Musician Warren Haynes has released a live orchestral version of the song ‘Banks of the Deep End,’ providing a preview of his upcoming symphonic album, ‘Dreams & Songs.’ The recording features a 2019 performance at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina, where Haynes collaborated with 64 musicians from the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestral arrangement includes a lineup of improvisational musicians, including Oteil Burbridge on bass, John Medeski on keyboards, Jeff Sipe on drums, and Greg Osby on saxophone. Haynes noted that the symphonic setting emphasizes the dramatic and dynamic shifts inherent in the composition, which originally appeared on Gov’t Mule’s 2001 album ‘The Deep End, Volume 1.’
Haynes, known for his work with the Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule, draws on a diverse range of musical influences spanning Southern rock, jam bands, and country. His new project revisits memorable tunes through a classical lens, paying tribute to his roots in Asheville.
