Warren police investigate mini bike crash involving three children

Three children were hospitalized in Warren, Michigan, after being struck by a car while riding minibikes at the intersection of Jackson and Memphis. Neighbors reported that the children suffered broken bones and serious abrasions after a minibike became caught under the vehicle and was dragged.

Warren police emphasized that these gasoline-powered minibikes are not permitted on streets or sidewalks because they are low to the ground and difficult for drivers to see. Officials noted that such vehicles, as well as e-motos, are considered off-road vehicles and are not street legal.

In response to the incident, the Warren City Council is discussing potential safety measures. Council member Mindy Moore indicated that the city may meet with police to determine if a new ordinance is required to address the issue and will utilize school communication programs to warn parents about the dangers of these vehicles.
