Warri City Stadium undergoing international standard renovation
The Warri City Stadium in Delta State is undergoing a comprehensive renovation to meet international standards, with completion expected by the end of the year. Lanre Adeleke, CEO of Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited, confirmed that a new world-class drainage system has been installed to permanently resolve previous flooding issues.
Stakeholders, including former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju and former Green Eagles captain Segun Odegbami, have praised the quality of the newly remodeled pitch. Odegbami noted that the playing surface is comparable to the best in the world, potentially allowing the venue to host FIFA and CAF organized matches.
To ensure the longevity of the facility, the Delta State Government has included regular maintenance in the remodeling contract. This initiative aims to support the Nigeria Premier Football League and grassroots sports development, addressing historical issues that previously led to the city being disqualified by FIFA inspections.
