Warrington Borough Council plans £10m walking and cycling route

Warrington Borough Council is assessing the environmental impacts of a £10 million active travel scheme designed to improve connectivity between Culcheth and Birchwood. The project, funded through local regeneration levelling up grants, includes the construction of a new shared-use footpath.

The proposed route will link New Hall Lane in Culcheth to a point north of the Birchwood Way roundabout near the M62 junction 11. The initiative aims to enhance access to employment opportunities at Birchwood Technology Park and other locations south of the M62, promoting sustainable travel and reducing vehicle reliance. The council has requested a screening opinion to determine if a full environmental impact assessment is required for the development.
