Warsaw archaeologists discover Nazi propaganda poster fragments

Archaeologists working at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw have discovered fragments of a German propaganda poster from the Nazi occupation era. The discovery occurred during preparations for the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace.

The poster features a portrait of Adolf Hitler and contains text in Belarusian that reads “Hitler wyzwoliciel” (Hitler, the Liberator). According to Sławomir Kuliński, spokesperson for the Saxon Palace Society, the material was intended for the General District of Belarus (Generalbezirk Weißruthenien) within the Reichskommissariat Ostland. The propaganda aimed to frame the 1941 German invasion as a liberation from Bolshevism and Stalin.

In a separate discovery during construction work on Sienkiewicza Street, workers unearthed a heavy manhole cover from a former transformer station dating back to approximately 1914. The cover, weighing over half a ton, was found in remarkably good condition.
