Warsaw commemorates former Vice President Julian Kulski

Central ceremonies were held in Warsaw to commemorate Julian Spitosław Kulski, the long-serving Vice President of Warsaw during the Second Polish Republic. The event included members of the Kulski family and representatives from the Institute of National Remembrance.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled on the facade of the Jabłonowski Palace, which served as the Warsaw City Hall between 1819 and 1944. In a letter read by Professor Dariusz Dudka, President Karol Nawrocki described Kulski as a dedicated statesman who served Poland with his expertise and worked to minimize the harm of German decrees by appearing submissive to occupiers to protect the Polish administration.

Kulski, a close collaborator of President Stefan Starzyński, was known as the ‘hostage of the city hall’ due to his delicate role in navigating the occupation and his subsequent arrests by German forces. He was recognized for his lifelong commitment to the independence and values of the Polish state.
