Warsaw expands outer bus and tram lines to ease city‑center congestion
Warsaw is strengthening its peripheral public‑transport network to give residents faster, more comfortable trips between districts without entering the crowded centre. Existing outer‑city bus routes such as lines 145, 186, 189, 220, 401, 402, 414 and the 229‑319 corridor that cross the Anna Jagiellon Bridge have seen increased frequency, with line 229 expanded in May to meet growing demand.
The city is also enhancing tram services. Tram line 26 already links Bielany, Bemowo and Wolę, while a new strategic tram corridor is under construction to connect Wilanów with Bemowo via Mokotów, Ochota and Wolę, passing key points like Dolny Mokotów, Rakowiecka, Rostafińskich, Dworzec Zachodni and Kasprzaka Street. These projects aim to cut travel times, reduce traffic in the city centre, lower car usage and improve air quality for Warsaw’s inhabitants.
