Warsaw launches outdoor exhibition on WWII destruction and rebuilding of its churches

On 1 August 2026 an outdoor exhibition titled “Miasto świątyń, miasto ruin. Losy kościołów Archidiecezji Warszawskiej w czasie II wojny światowej i odbudowy” opened beside the Church of St. Anna in Warsaw. It is organized by the Foundation Memory of the Heroes of the Warsaw Uprising and supported by Metropolitan Archbishop Adrian Galbas.

The display presents archival photos, documents and narratives of ten Warsaw churches—including the Basilica of the Holy Cross, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and others—showing their wartime damage, role as shelters during the 1944 Uprising and post‑war reconstruction. The exhibition is free to the public and will run until 21 August 2026.
