Warsaw plans M4 metro line to connect nine districts

Warsaw is planning the development of the M4 metro line, which is expected to become the city's longest and most technologically advanced metro route. A conceptual design document for the project is scheduled to be completed by November 2027.

The proposed line will span over 26 kilometers and include 23 stations. It is designed to connect nine districts: Białołęka, Bielany, Żoliborz, Śródmieście, Wola, Ochota, Mokotów, Włochy, and Wilanów. The route will run from Myśliborska in Białołęka to Wilanów, crossing major barriers such as railway lines, main roads, and the Vistula River.

Key features of the M4 project include two transfer points to existing lines (M2 and M3) and the potential for driverless operation. Plans include a technical and depot station in the Białołęka area. While designers recommend starting construction from the north in Białołęka, a final decision on whether the line will be built in stages or all at once has yet to be made.
