Warsaw police explain search of TV Republika journalist's home

The Warsaw Metropolitan Police have issued a statement regarding the search of an apartment belonging to a TV Republika journalist in the Żoliborz district. The intervention was prompted by reports of a potential threat to the individual's life and health.

According to police, the action followed an electronic report after the man posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) stating he felt unwell and needed medical assistance. A witness also contacted authorities, expressing concern over the man's irrational behavior and noting that his apartment door was ajar and the interior was in disarray. Earlier that day, municipal guards had also intervened at a local church involving the same individual, who was subsequently transported to Bielański Hospital.

Tomasz Sakiewicz, the editor-in-chief of TV Republika, criticized the police action, alleging that the search was conducted without the journalist's or the editorial office's knowledge and without a prepared witness. He characterized the incident as scandalous and suggested improper links between police press services and competing media groups. The police maintain that the search was not related to the journalist's professional activities but was necessary to secure the premises and an unattended pet.
