Warsaw police intervention results in death of 37‑year‑old suspect

On Sunday, 21 June, police from the Warsaw Białołęka precinct were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at Przejezdna street after reports that a 37‑year‑old man was acting aggressively toward a co‑habitant and had previously taken unknown substances. The suspect locked himself in a room, used a pepper‑spray device against officers, and fled through a ground‑floor window, hiding in a nearby garage. During the attempt to restrain him, he lost consciousness. Emergency medical teams were called, but the man died several hours later in hospital despite receiving first‑aid. Two officers were injured – one was bitten on the hand and the other required treatment after exposure to the irritant – and both were taken for medical consultation. The incident has been reported to the prosecutor’s office, and a police internal‑control review is under way to determine the exact circumstances of the suspect’s death.
