Warsaw prepares signature drive to recall Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski

Organisers of a "Stołeczna Operacja Referendalna" plan to start collecting signatures in late July to trigger a referendum on the possible removal of Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski. To lodge a recall request, more than 132,000 valid signatures from Warsaw residents are required; officials estimate around 150,000 signatures will be needed to allow for verification rejections.

Maciej Wilk, head of the initiative, warned that the effort will be a major logistical challenge and stressed the need for volunteers, funding and printed materials. He said the campaign could culminate in a vote as early as December, adding, "Taki prezent na mikołajki może się zdarzyć" ("Such a present for St. Nicholas could happen"). A valid referendum would also demand roughly 460‑470 thousand voters to turn out, representing 60 % of the electorate that elected Trzaskowski in the first round of the 2024 mayoral race.
