Warsaw Uprising: 82nd anniversary and commemorations
The 82nd anniversary of the end of the Warsaw Uprising marks a period of reflection on the 63-day struggle that resulted in the deaths of approximately 18,000 insurgents and between 150,000 to 200,000 civilians.
To honor this history, the Memory Chamber at the Warsaw Uprising Cemetery has been officially named after Wanda Traczyk-Stawska. The decision, acknowledged by Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, recognizes her lifelong dedication to preserving the memory of both fallen soldiers and the civilian victims of the conflict.
In Tomaszów Mazowiecki, the legacy of the uprising is also remembered through the lives of local residents who were former participants. Henryk Teodor Anczarski (pseudonym ‘Kajro’), a printer and member of the People's Army, and Hipolit Iwanik (pseudonym ‘Winiak’), a chemical engineer who organized grenade production, both settled in the city after the war and contributed to local industry and community life.
