Warstein quarry accident: Woman dies during improvised bungee jump

A 21-year-old woman from Aschersleben died following a bungee jumping accident at a former quarry in Warstein, Germany. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

According to police reports, the group involved had improvised and constructed their own bungee jumping apparatus by spanning ropes between two rock faces approximately 80 to 100 meters apart. The equipment had not undergone any official safety inspections or certifications. While a 34-year-old man successfully completed the first jump, the woman struck a rock wall during her attempt. Despite resuscitation efforts by emergency services, she died at the scene.

Local police initially classified the event as a climbing accident but later corrected the findings to a bungee jumping mishap. Authorities stated there are no indications of criminal wrongdoing or third-party liability, labeling the event a “tragic accident.” The four companions present were physically uninjured but received psychological support from emergency services. The quarry is a recognized climbing area managed by the German Alpine Club, though the group did not utilize the official climbing routes.
