Warzone to Remove Grappling Hooks from Battle Royale and Resurgence

Raven Software announced that the Grappling Hook mechanic will be removed from the standard Battle Royale and Resurgence playlists in Call of Duty: Warzone later this month (August 2026). The change is expected in a minor update before the Season 5 Reloaded launch in early September, to avoid overlapping with the Modern Warfare 4 beta.

The grappling hooks, first tested after the Black Ops 7 integration in December and fully added with the Season 3 update, sparked mixed reactions. Streamers such as HusKerrs and CPreds welcomed the removal, citing balance and positioning concerns, while others like Speros and GhostOfCaldera expressed disappointment, saying the tool added creative freedom. A persistent glitch that trapped players in a stuck animation also contributed to the decision. The mechanic will remain available in the Black Ops Royale mode.

Community feedback highlights the ongoing debate over mobility tools in competitive shooters, and the upcoming patch reflects Raven Software’s effort to address balance and technical issues.
