WASA wage impasse leads PSA to demand HR director's removal

The Public Services Association (PSA) is calling for the removal of the acting human resource director at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Bunny Rambhajan, following a breakdown in wage negotiations.

Negotiations between the union and WASA management reportedly collapsed around midnight on a Thursday after the HR director and her team walked out of the session. The dispute centers on wage proposals submitted in January, which include provisions for a promised 10 per cent salary increase and cover the periods 2014-2016 and 2017-2019. PSA President Felisha Thomas accused management of failing to advance these proposals to the human resource committee and failing to provide answers regarding the financial implications of settling arrears and salary increases.

Workers staged a protest at WASA’s St Joseph headquarters, blocking the entrance. While workers remained at the compound for over 24 hours, PSA President Thomas announced that members would return to the headquarters early Monday morning to continue their protest and seek a resolution.
