Waseda University baseball manager Satoru Komiyama to resign
Satoru Komiyama, the manager of the Waseda University baseball team, announced his resignation during a press conference on August 31. His tenure, which began in January 2019, will conclude following the conclusion of the Tokyo Big6 Baseball Autumn League season.
During his eight years leading the team, Komiyama secured four championships, including a recent three-consecutive-title run from the spring of 2024 to the spring of 2025. He is credited with restoring the team's winning tradition and developing several players who transitioned to professional leagues.
Komiyama, a former professional pitcher with 117 career wins in Japan and the United States, reflected on his coaching style, which emphasized mental toughness and dedication to the Waseda uniform. He noted that while his rigorous approach might be viewed critically in modern contexts, his goal was to foster resilience in his players.
Osamu Adachi will succeed Komiyama as manager, effective December 1. Adachi, a Waseda alumnus, previously held managerial roles in high school and corporate baseball.
