Waseda University Rugby Team Holds First Summer Camp in Kamaishi, Iwate

Waseda University’s Rugby Football Club conducted its inaugural summer training camp in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, from July 28 to July 31. About 170 players stayed for a three‑night, four‑day program that opened with a commemorative ceremony at the Kamaishi Prayer Park, honoring victims of the 2011 earthquake. The city mayor presented the team with a ceremonial flag, and the camp was facilitated by the local “Team Uno Statray” initiative to make use of the Kamaishi Ugusugai Reconstruction Stadium.

On July 30 the university squad held a joint practice with 86 high‑school players from seven schools across the region. The session featured drills on accurate passing, low‑body tackling and other match‑type exercises, allowing the high‑school athletes to experience the techniques of a team that has won the national university championship a record 16 times. Participants and coaches highlighted the exchange as a valuable experience for both sides.
