Washim: Stone-pelting during Durga procession sparks tension

Tension erupted in Malegaon, located in Maharashtra’s Washim district, after stone-pelting occurred during a Durga idol immersion procession near Tipu Sultan Chowk. The incident, which took place on Wednesday night, was reportedly triggered by an argument over the throwing of ‘gulal’ (colored powder) near residential houses.

Following the altercation, a curfew was imposed to maintain order, and security forces, including the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF), were deployed to the area. While procession organizers initially halted rituals to demand arrests, the immersion was eventually completed around 4:00 AM on Thursday following police intervention.

Authorities confirmed that no vandalism or property damage was reported. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify suspects and are in the process of registering a First Information Report (FIR).
