Washing machines can develop mold and odor if left idle

Leaving laundry in a washing machine for more than about two hours, especially in warm and humid conditions, creates an environment for bacteria and mold. This can cause unpleasant smells, weaken fabrics and lead to health issues such as allergies, skin or respiratory infections.

Moisture also accumulates in the detergent drawer and other hidden parts, where residue mixes with water and fosters fungal growth. Regular maintenance—removing and cleaning the drawer, running a hot‑water cycle with a cup of white vinegar or a dedicated cleaner, keeping the door open to dry, and checking hoses for blockages—prevents the problem.
