Washing powder recommended for environmental sustainability
Experts suggest that consumers can significantly reduce their environmental impact by simplifying their laundry detergent choices. While many products like liquid detergents, pods, and fabric softeners are available, consumer advocates suggest that only three types are truly necessary: heavy-duty detergent for whites, color detergent for brights, and potentially a delicate wash.
Powdered detergent is identified as the most environmentally friendly option. It typically offers higher cleaning performance, contains no preservatives, and places less strain on sewage treatment plants compared to liquid alternatives. Additionally, powder often contains bleaching agents that are effective for white laundry and tough stains when used at temperatures around 60 °C.
Proper dosage remains critical to avoid excess foaming and environmental waste. The required amount depends on water hardness, the level of soil, and the volume of laundry. Users are encouraged to check local water hardness levels and follow the specific dosing instructions provided on product packaging.
