Washington Agreement marks six years of Kosovo-Serbia economic normalization

The Washington Agreement, signed on September 4, 2020, marks six years since Kosovo and Serbia committed to economic normalization through US mediation. The agreement was signed at the White House by then-Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, in the presence of then-US President Donald Trump.

Key provisions included Kosovo establishing diplomatic relations with Israel and opening its embassy in Jerusalem. For Serbia, the agreement involved a one-year moratorium on campaigns to withdraw recognition of Kosovo's independence.

The pact also focused on significant infrastructure and economic cooperation, including the implementation of the Belgrade-Prishtina highway and railway agreements. Both nations committed to working with the US International Development Finance Corporation and EXIM Bank on projects such as the Peace Highway and various railway connections, alongside cooperation in energy, security, and religious freedom.
